Great Lakes and New Milford

Sphinx and Blazers duel in an interleague battle.

Game 1:  Kershaw @ Bauer

A Betts second inning grand slam and a Freeman 8th inning 3 run double pace a 9 run Blazer attack which was WAY more than enough for the game’s greatest pitcher (6 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 0 ER, 6 K) as Blazers cruise 9-4.

WP Kershaw (3-2)

LP Bauer (7-7)

Game 2:  Tanaka @ Sabathia

Sphinx jump all over Tanaka in the first on a Reddick RBI double and Machado 2 run bomb.

Somehow, Sabathia was awesome and Sphinx win 4-1.

WP Sabathia (8-1)

LP Tanaka (8-5)

S Herrera  (19)

Game 3:  Iwakuma @ Quintana

A first inning Saunders single is followed by a Carpenter RBI double and Freeman RBI single in the second.  A Saunders solo shot in the third pushed the lead to 4-0 and would be all the Blazers would get.

Fortunately, Machado lead off the 9th with a solo shot but Kimbrel was ready after that and sent the Sphinx down in order to preserve the 4-1 win.

WP Quintana (8-4)

LP Iwakuma (2-7)

S Kimbrel (24)

Game 4:  Smyly @ Greene

Shane Greene dominated again with 5 IP 1 ER.  Blazers lead 3-1 in the 6th courtesy of Saunders and Carpenter solo shots and a Grandy RBI double.  Then the bullpen imploded.  Dull lead off the inning by walking Napoli.  Cervenka came on and got PH Pearce.  Then McGowan who has like a .400 OPS vs R in real life gave up a double to Tomas.  Pedroia grounded out for an RBI for out #2.  Devenski then came on and gave up a RBI triple to Reddick.  Donaldson doubled in Reddick to give he Sphinx a 4-3 lead and the series split.

WP Smly (9-4)

LP Devenski (7-2)

S Herrera (20)

The Blazers slow start allows Salem to creep into a virtual tie for first place.
