Infidels and Blazers (Ch 2)
The first place Blazers travel to Ravenswood to start a home and home series against the first place Infidels.
Game 1: Kershaw @ Scherzer
The battle of the top two CY hopefuls in the OL did not disappoint. Scherzer struck out the side in the first and Kershaw notched 2 K’s with a groundout.
Tulo singled inbetween K’s in the top of the second before Robinson popped up. In the bottom half, Valencia led off with a walk and after a Brain McCann K moved to third on an error by RF Choo. Seiman then grounded 6-4-3 to end the threat.
Third inning Kershaw singled and so did Carpenter. With 2 outs, Choo singled to shallow LF to load the bases, but Peralta K’d to end the threat. Bottom half went 1-2-3 for Kershaw.
Top 4, Tulo was HBP to lead it off and Robinson walked with one out. A two out double by Castro scores Tulo for the game’s first run, 1-0 Blazers. Carpenter K’d to end the threat. Bottom half Valencia and McCann line 2 out singles but Beltre K’d to end the rally.
Top 5, Blazers go 1-2-3. Bottom half, Seiman lines a single and advanced to second on a groundout. Scherzer singles him to third. Fowler K’d for the second out and VanSlyke was HBP to load the bases. With the tying and winning runs in scoring position, Kershaw buckled down to K SUS Mahtook to escape the jam.
6th inning was uneventful from a hitters perspective with 4 K’s and no baserunners.
Kershaw went 6.1 IP with 4 H, 1 BB, 0 R and 10 K.
Scherzer went 6.1 IP, with 6 H, 3 BB, 1 R and 11 K.
Top 8, Salas on the bump for Ravenswood and Blazers put up a 3 spot on a Robinson solo HR and Castro 2 run bomb which was proceeded by Tyler Collins PH and getting his first hit of the year.
Top 9, Blazers put up another 3 spot on Salas this time with Choo hitting the solo shot and Tulo with the 2 run bomb.
Blazers win game one 7-0. (happy birthday Skiz)
WP Kershaw (5-2)
LP Scherzer (5-2)
With the win, Kershaw moves into a tie for 13th place all time on the BDBL wins list tying legends Jamie Moyer and Curt Schilling.
Game 2: Tanaka @ Chen
Top 3, Tulo blasts his second HR of the series, a 3 run shot to put NM up 3-0.
Top 4, a C Davis error scores a run and Carpenter doubled in two more for a 6-0 BLazer lead.
Bottom half, Ravenswood gets 2 back on a Valencia HR.
Top 5, Tulo HR’s for the third time in the series for a 7-2 Blazer lead.
Blazers take game two 7-2.
WP Tanaka (4-0)
LP Chen (3-3)
S Warren (1)
Game 3: Lewis @ Anderson
The series shifts to New Milford and with NM up 3-0 in the 6th, we lose connection and have to replay the game.
Bottom 1, Peralta launched a 3 run bomb to put NM up 3-0.
Top 2, Ravenswood gets one back on Byrd HR, but New Milford put up another 3 spot in the bottom half on a Peralta 2 run double and Tulo RBI single, 6-1 NM.
Top 3, a Valencia sac fly made it 6-2.
A Tulo RBI single in the 5th put the Blazers up 7-2. A Choo HR made it 9-2.
Top 6, after Skiz wrote “fuck you,” his team responded with a 5 spot highlighted by it all coming with 2 outs. To be fair, Skiz then wrote “fuck me.”
Top 9, with Skiz using all his bench and 4 lefties due up, Furbush comes on for the save and got Miller, Davis and Granderson in order to preserve the Blazer 9-7 win.
WP Anderson (4-2)
LP Lewis (1-4)
S Furbush (1)
Game 4: Garcia @ Quintana
A first inning Seiman double put Ravenswood up 1-0.
Blazers score another 3 spot in the bottom half (which I’m sure breaks the BDBL record for 3 run innings in a series) on a Carpenter lead off HR, McCann RBI single and Choo double.
Top 7, Fowler triples to lead off on previously unscored upon Albers and scores to cut the Blazer lead to 3-2.
Bottom 7, Peralta launced a 2 run HR off of Capps and Collins hit a PH RBI 3B for another 3 run inning and a 6-2 Blazer lead.
Top 8, previously unscored upon Thornton gives up a lead off triple to Davis who scores to cut the lead to 6-3.
Top 9, K Rod is called upon to hold a 3 run lead and shuts the Infidels down to preserve the 6-3 win and Blazer sweep
WP Quintana (3-0)
LP Garcia (2-1)
S KRod (5)
